Winemaker's Comments: 2005 Castle Rock Lake County Viognier
Our Castle Rock Viognier is produced from grpaes grown in California's Lake County. Here, the red volcanic soils, warms days and cool nights form an ideal environment for growing this delicate varietal, which first found acclaim in France's Rhone Valley.
This elegant wine has a deep, golden color, and offers rich and complex fruit aromas of apricot, orange blossom, and acacia. In the mouth it is full-bodies with a distinctive fruit character, and a rich intense flavor.
On its own it is excellent as an aperitif, or it makes an ideal accompaniment to seafood, lightly flavored fish dishes, pasta or quiche.

This is a solid Viognier. Very strong pear flavors make their presence known. It's not quite as good as the Zaca Mesa Viognier, but it's about half the price so I can't complain.
