Winemaker's Comments: 2004 Grgich Hills Zinfandel
Zinfandel has always been special to Grgich Hills, as Mike Grgich was instrumental in the discovery of the variety's origin - his home country of Croatia! The grapes for this wine come from our hillside Calistoga vineyard, which like all of our vineyards is farmed according to natural cycles and using no artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides. These practices produce balanced, healthy vines and pure concentrated fruit; we know you'll enjoy the results! A great food partner, this peppery, juicy wine pairs wonderfully with anything off the grill.

Slight whiff of caramel apples, pops on your tongue like coca-cola, and as noted by the winemaker, goes great with a BBQ - a freakin' State Fair in a bottle! A nice, medium body, so it's got some stuff to shake when the Allman Brothers Tribute Band gets on stage and starts wailing out "Jessica".

Sweet in smell and much like the baking aisle in the grocery store. I had to dip into my cupboard to catch a whiff of cocoa powder - that is what I was smelling in this Zinfandel. The texture: mouth-drying as if eating cocoa powder but overall a luscious chocolate cake of a wine.
