Winemaker's Comments: 2004 Byron Pinot Noir
An ancient varietal with its roots in eastern France, Pinot Noir is a red grape that is highly expressive of its terroir. The long growing season of the Santa Maria Valley allows Pinot Noir grapes to develop slowly and to their fullest, most deliciously intense flavors. Byron Pinot Noir has undertones of cherry and plum with depth and velvetiness from maturing in oak.

This wine didn't have a nose but I had an eye for its color; a deep dark ruby tone that looked elegant in my glass. I enjoyed tastes of black licorice and honey; my only complaint is the finish, which halted my buds with lingering orange rind.

Nice black cherry aroma set up for a dull, smokey thud of a taste bonanza! Actually, the blunted flavors work pretty well here - a nice, thuggy club to the face for those nights when a shiny, pointed shiv isn't doing the trick. That's right, this wine will murder you in your sleep while you are dreaming of ice cream and smiling babies. Disturbed? Then the Byron 2004 Pinot Noir has you right where it wants you. Uncomfortably content (cuz you are gonna get murdered and you are sleeping!)
